In Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, two policemen have been arrested for the alleged murder of the accused during his custody by the police. The arrest was made by the Crime Branch-Crime Investigative Department (CB-CID) of Chennai Police, after Mr. V. Vignesh, a habitual offender with a criminal record was arrested in Tamil Nadu.
Notably, V. Vignesh and his friend Suresh were arrested by Secretariat police in Chennai on the 18th of April. However, during the judicial custody, Vignesh died. Initially, the case was booked under suspicious murder, which was converted into a murder case, based on the postmortem report. In the postmortem report, there were marks of serious injuries on Vignesh’s body.
Acting upon the matter, the National Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST,) on the 6th of May, Friday, recommended the suspension of five police officials, alleged of the death of Vignesh in the custody. The Commission also demanded invoking relevant sections of the SC/ST Act against the accused policemen. It also asked the M.K. Stalin led Tamil Nadu Government to release the compensation to the family of Vignesh and protect the family of the victim and the witnesses in the case.
