Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu has been given the additional charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry. The position was vacant after TDP Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju resigned after the Government refused to give Andhra Pradesh Special Status.
President Ram Nath Kovind’s office tweeted the new appointment on Saturday afternoon. Earlier this week PM Modi accepted the TDP Minister’s resignation but did not mention the name of his predecessor.
Suresh Prabhu was the Railway Minister in 2017 but resigned after a chain of rail accidents. Prabhu took the moral responsibility and was transferred to the Commerce Ministry.
The Commerce Ministry is the ninth cabinet level position held by Mr. Prabhu in his political career. Although many believe he was demoted, Prabhu took the shift positively and said he was happy to work with Make in India and Startup India.
