Mr. Sukh Ram, a former Union Minister and the Indian National Congress (INC) leader passed away on the 11th of May, Wednesday.
The INC leader Pandit Sukh Ram passed away due to a brain stroke and was 94 years old.
According to sources, he suffered a brain stroke on the 4th of May in Manali. After two days, on the 7th of May, he was shifted to the All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Delhi for treatment. After a few days of treatment, Pandit Sukh Ram took his last breath on the 11th of May.
The news of Mr. Sukh Ram’s demise was confirmed by his grandson Mr. Aashray Sharma. He took to Facebook and announced the obituary which read, “End of an era. Alvida Dada ji abi nhi bjegi phone ki ghanti (good by Dada ji, now the bell of your phone will not ring.”
Highlighting the political career of Mr. Sukh Ram, in 1962, he became a Member of the Territorial Council in Himachal Pradesh. Furthermore, Mr. Sukh Ram served as the Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology from 1993 to 1996. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He also won the Vidhan Sabha elections five times and the Lok Sabha elections three times. In 2011, he was sentenced to five years in jail for corruption when he was Communications Minister in 1996.
Mr. Sukh Ram represented the Mandi Assembly seat from 1963 to 1996. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1984 and served as a junior minister in the Rajiv Gandhi government.
According to sources, Mr. Sukh Ram’s body would reach Mandi, Himachal Pradesh from AIIMS Delhi, where his final rites would be conducted.
