ngress Working Committee (CWC), the highest executive authority of the Congress party, is set to meet on Sunday, the 13th of March.

According to sources, the meeting is scheduled to be held today afternoon, at 4:00 P.M., and would be chaired by Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)  The meeting scheduled virtually, would be attended by the CWC members and the senior leaders of the INC.  The meeting came after the INC was defeated by the opposition in the recently concluded Assembly elections in the five poll bound states.

Furthermore, speaking about the meeting, the CWC would discuss the future course of action, taken by the INC, the opposition of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In Punjab, the Congress lost power to the Aam Aadmi Party and was reduced to 18 seats compared to its 2017 tally of 80. The party was also unable to defeat the incumbent BJP in three states where the two parties were in a direct contest – Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.

“Humbly accept the people’s verdict… We will learn from this and keep working for the interests of the people of India,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet, reacting to the outcome of the five assembly elections.

As per sources, the ‘G23’ or group of 23 dissenters, have asked for an emergency meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). In addition to the appointment of a new Congress president, they are also demanding that the party hold organisational polls.

Senior Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Manish Tewari, both seen as part of the ‘G23’, were spotted at Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence in New Delhi on Friday. Former Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Azad is among the most senior Congress leaders part of the G23 formation.
