On the 11th of September, West Bengal witnessed a strict one day lockdown. 

The West Bengal Government took the decision of biweekly lockdown as a precautionary measure to control the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

This is the third month, with the biweekly lockdown.

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, in July announced a biweekly lockdown as a preventive measure to control the COVID-19 spread.

The first such lockdown was imposed on the 24th of July and the recent one was on the 7th of September.

Initiatially, Mamata Banerjee announced the lockdown to be imposed on 3 different days in September. However, due to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam on the 13th of September, Ms. Bannerjee liftedlifter the 12th September lockdown.

The West Bengal Government imposed the biweekly lockdown till the 21st of September.

On the 11th of September, roads looked deserted as all shops were shut, buses and transportation were not allowed, offices were closed and flight services were also suspended for the day.

In major areas of the State, police barricades were put to stop people from venturing out of their homes.

However, during the lockdown, the below mentioned activities and services are functioning:

Health services including the movement of health personnel/patients by public and private transport.

Medicine shops and pharmacies.

Law and order, courts, correctional services, fire and emergency services.

Electricity, water and conservancy services.

Continuous process industries and Industries with in house workers.

Agriculture operations; Tea Garden operations in the field.

Intrastate and interstate movement of goods.

The lockdown would remain in effect from 6:00 A.M., to 10:00 P.M.

Meanwhile, till the 11th of September, West Bengal has a total of 1,93,175 with 3,112 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

Of the total cases, 23,377 are active cases, 1,66,027 are recovered/discharged cases and 3,771 deceased.

In addition, the recovery rate of COVID-19 in West Bengal is at 85.90 % and mortality rate is 2%.

Besides, the West Bengal health authority is conducting massive tests with 44,347 tests in the past 24 hours. With this, the State conducted 23.30 lakh tests till date.
