The Delhi unit of the Indian National Congress (INC) registered a complaint against film director Mr. Ashok Pandit for allegedly spreading fake and distorted news about Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC.

On the 30th of September, Friday, the INC Delhi unit registered a complaint and said, Mr. Ashok Pandit incited, provoked the public, thereby creating enmity between groups.  The complaint also asked to punish such offences and take action against Mr. Ashok Pandit under section1860 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other legal provisions.

The matter escalated between Mr. Ashok Pandit and the INC after Mr. Ashol Pandit tweeted which he deleted later.  The shared tweet read,  “Janaudhari Rahul Gandhi refusing to perform Aarti!  The reason is clear!”

Reacting to the tweet, the Delhi Congress alleged that the tweet was accompanied with maliciously distorted and clipped video of Rahul Gandhi, “wherein it was sought to portray Shri. Rahul Gandhi as refusing to partake in religious rituals being performed in Rajkot (Gujarat) while worshipping goddess Durga.  It must be pointed out that the video was created by morphing (through deliberately editing) an older video in which Shri Rahul Gandhi was indeed offering prayers in direct contradiction to what was being portrayed by Ashok Pandit. 29/09/22.”

The INC issued a statement in this regard which read, “This was nothing short of a deliberate and motivated attempt to outrage religious sentiments of members of the Hindu community using deliberately falsified videos.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Jairam Ramesh, the National Spokesperson of the INC, demanded action against Mr. Ashok Pandit, saying no one should do such malicious activities, to defame party and its leaders.
