The Delhi High Court (HC,) on the 15th of November, dismissed a bail plea filed by P. Chidambaram, the former Finance Minister of India.
P. Chidambaram filed the bail plea in relation to the INX Media money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED.) The ED alleged Chidambaram of laundering Rs. 305 crores.
The last hearing regarding the same was held on the 8th of November. Justice Suresh Kait reserved the order after hearing the arguments of P. Chidambaram and the ED.
Justice Kait announced the verdict regarding the bail plea on the 15th of November and said P. Chidambaram’s bail plea was rejected. As of now, P. Chidambaram is in Tihar Jail due to his alleged involvement in the money laundering case.
Previously, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also filed charges against Chidambaram pertaining to the same money laundering case. However, the Supreme Court, on the 22nd of October, granted Chidambaram bail in the CBI case, but the ED case is still going on.
The case was registered by the CBI and the ED in 2017. The investigation regarding the INX Media case is still underway.
