The Delhi Police deployed a tight security force in the view of Bharat Bandh, called by the students across India, on the 20th of June, Monday.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Army aspirants observed a nationwide strike in Indian cities and states, demanding withdrawal of the scheme.

According to sources, the Delhi Police on Monday tightened security across the city and its bordering areas and warned of strict action against those trying to disrupt the law and order situation. There is heavy deployment at railway stations across the national capital and the Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) is also coordinating with its units in the neighbouring states.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch and PRO, Suman Nalwa, said, “We are in full preparedness so that no untoward incident happens.  Delhi is open. The traffic movement is smooth.  All establishments and offices are open. There is no bandh in Delhi.  Borders are not closed. But we are keeping a strict vigil as per the intelligence inputs received and taking all precautions.”

In Delhi, paramilitary forces remain deployed round the clock and they assist the Delhi Police in major law and order situations in addition to ensuring VVIP movement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra Kumar Singh said, “We have deployed all our strength on railway platforms and are monitoring the situation in close coordination with the GRPF. Personnel from other states to are on duty here. So far, we have not received any information on suspicious movement on railway stations and tracks.”

The Delhi Police said that they are fully prepared for any situation, likely to happen due to the ongoing protest.

Notably, on the 14th of June, Mr. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defence Minister of India, launched a new defence recruitment model called the ‘Agnipath.’  The new model was launched after being approved by the Union Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA,) for the betterment of the armed forces in India.

As per the newly launched Agnipath scheme, young soldiers would be released after four years of service, paving way for the new ones who want to serve the nation in the Indian Army.
