In a major set back to the Popular Front of India (PFI,) an Indian Muslim political organisation, which was formed to counter Hindutva groups and engage in a radical and exclusivist style of Muslim minority politics.
However, in the past few months, the Central Government is tracking their activities and alleged the PFI to be involved in anti national and terror links activities. Recently, more than 500 PFI activists and members were detained across India, under the multiple raids carried out by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI.) Concerned about the same, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government decided to ban the outfit.
On the evening of the 27th of September, Tuesday, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government banned the PFI, its associates and affiliated organisations in India. The ban was imposed for a duration of five years, with immediate effect under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, after being allegedly involved in a series of violence and has “links” with global terror groups like ISIS.
The organisations which were also declared banned under the stringent anti terror law UAPA include Rehab India Foundation (RIF,) Campus Front of India (CF,) All India Imams Council (AIIC,) National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO,) National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation.
