Hathras Murder Case: Sexual Assault Accused Kills Victim’s Father, UP CM Orders To Invoke NSA

Another brutal incident was reported in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh State.

On the 1st of March, Amrish Sharma, a resident of Hathras was shot dead. The incident took place around 4:00 P.M., on the 1st of March. According to sources, In July 2018, Amrish Sharma filed a case of sexual molestation against Gaurav Sharma and his four friends.

In his First Information Report (FIR) Amrish Sharma alleged Gaurav and his friends of sexually assaulting his daughter. He was in police custody, but after a month of the incident Gaurav was out on bail.

Speaking about the incident to the media, a police official said, “The wife and the aunt of the main accused Gaurav Sharma and both daughters of the deceased had gone to temple in the village. They had an argument there over the old case. The accused and the Amrish Sharma came there later where they argued and the accused shot the latter, who died while being taken to hospital.”

Concerned about the proceedings of the Hahtras Murder case, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against all the four accused.

On the 2nd of March, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released a statement which read, “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directs officials to take strict action in the matter. He has also given directions to invoke the National Security Act against all the accused involved in the case.”

According to the NSA, the Government has all power to detain a person if the authorities are satisfied that he/she is a threat to national security or to prevent him/her from disrupting public order.

Vineet Jaiswal, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hathras is investigating the case. Mr. Jaiswal also related, Mr. Amrish’s daughter said Gaurav Sharma of having relations with a Samajwadi Party leader. The accusation of the victim’s daughter regarding the connection with a SP leader was also confirmed by a local police chief. The police chief who wished to be anonymous confirmed the statement and said, Gaurav Sharma, runs his social media pages with the name ‘Gaurav Songra.’ On his FB profile, the accused has put up multiple photos calling himself a Samajwadi Party leader.

However, an investigation in this angle is underway and the claims are yet to be confirmed by a credible source.

Meanwhile, police have so far arrested two accused and are trying to nab the remaining two.
