Today was declared as the last day to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN (Permanent Account Number) card. But then reports suggested that the Finance Ministry might extend the deadline.
The linking of the Aadhaar card is to make Aadhaar an individual identification for every citizen of India.
The finance ministry released a statement that read, “Income tax returns filed will not be processed should tax filers fail to link Aadhaar and PAN on or before August 31, 2017.”
The Aadhaar card will act as a unique identifier and will be connected to all other schemes like bank accounts, income tax and PAN card.
Aadhaar is being made compulsory for taking loans in the future.
September 30th was decided to be the last date for quoting Aaadhaar for welfare schemes. But on Wednesday the government informed the Supreme Court that the date has been extended to December 31st.
December 31st is also the deadline to link your Aadhaar card to your bank account.
You can link your Aadhaar to your PAN card in two easy steps.
1. Log into the Income Tax Efiling website and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’
2. Type in your Aadaar number, PAN number and name as on the Aadhaar card. Enter the captcha code and click ‘Link Aadhaar’
The information will be verified by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) and the linking will be confirmed.
