The elections for the 15th President of India are scheduled for the 18th of July, Monday.  

Ms. Draupadi Murmu, the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and Mr. Yashwant Sinha, the candidate representing the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) are in the fray for the next President of India post.  Approximately 4,800 Members of Parliament (MPs) are to cast their votes to elect the new President.  The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of MPs of both Houses of Parliament and MLAs of the states and Delhi and Puducherry. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, and the Assemblies, and members of state Legislative Councils, are not part of the electoral college.

The voting will be held in the Parliament building, during the Monsoon Assembly session, which is set to start on the 18th of July.

Speaking about the support to candidates, Ms. Draupadi Murmu is likely to have a clear victory with the support of non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parties in the elections.  According to sources, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (BJP,) the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Bihu Janata Dal (BJD,) the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and many other parties extended support to the Tribal woman leader and the NDA candidate Ms. Draupadi Murmu.  On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and other Indian National Congress alliance parties will be supporting Mr. Yashwant Sinha.  

The polling for the presidential elections will begin from 10:00 A.M. and would continue till 5:00 P.M., at the state legislative houses and Parliament House.

The counting of the votes would be held on the 21st of July, whereas the newly elected President of India would take the oath on the 25th of July.

Notably, the term of the outgoing President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind is set to end on the 24th of July.
