The Ukraine-Russia crisis intensified with war like situations between the two nations.  Considering the situation, the Indian Government started evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine, especially students.

Although the Ukrainian Government closed the air base in its Capital City Kiev, the Indian Government is making efforts to bring back students and Indians from neighboring Poland and Romania.  However, a controversial tweet has been making rounds on Twitter, which states that Indian students are being beaten and ill treated by the Ukraine Army.

A Twitter user said, “Ukrainian politicians and media outlets are referring to black/brown refugees as’ the ‘others and unabashedly treating them as expendables, including hundreds of Indian students.”

Another student Mohammad Shahnawaz wrote that the Indian students stranded at the Ukrainian border are getting beaten.  In his tweet, he said, “Mr. President, your army on the Poland and Romania border is beating innocent Indian students.  Is this the kind of behavior and frustration your army is howling towards low-income Indians?  In this time of hardship, you people should be very calm.”

Another Twitter user, Kartik reacted to the viral tweets and videos being shared online and said,  “Just saw the video of Indian students being kicked, dragged, and harassed.  How is this different from what Russia is doing to you?  I Hope this stops. Students also have families waiting for them back home (SIC.)”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high level meeting, on the 28th of February, and decided to send 4 Union Ministers to Poland and Romania, to oversee students being evacuated from Ukraine.  Ministers Mr. Hardeep Puri, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mr. Kiren Rijiju and V.K. Singh would go to the neighboring countries of Ukraine.
