India’s COVID-19 Updates: With 53,370 New Cases, Active Cases Below 7 Lakhs


On the 24th of October with 53,370 new Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, for the first time since two months, India’s COVID-19 cases fell below 7 lakhs.

The updated figure of the Novel Coronavirus was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 24th of October.

According to the Health Ministry of India, in the past 24 hours, India reported 53,370 new cases, 650 deaths and 67,549 discharged/recovered.

With these updates, India has 7,814,682 positive cases, of which 6,80,680 are active cases, 70,16,046 recovered/discharged cases and 1,17,956 deceased.

The updated data is available at the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

The fall in the active cases is being considered as a significant milestone in India’s ongoing fight against the Novel Coronavirus.

In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted a total of 10,13,82,564 samples for COVID-19 including 12,69,479 samples in the past 24 hours. 

The top five states with the highest number of the active Novel Coronavirus cases are Maharashtra (1,43,922,) followed by Kerala (95,658,) Karnataka (89,483) and West Bengal (36,471.)

On the evening of the 23rd of October, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Health Minister of India said the next three months would be decisive in determining the Novel Coronavirus situation in India.

In regard to this the Union Health Minister urged people to follow COVID-19 protocols appropriate behaviour in the coming festival season and winter months.
