INX Media Case: CBI To Question P. Chidambaram

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned former Union Minister P. Chidambaram for questioning. This comes in relation to the INX Media investigation.

Yesterday the Court told the agency Chidambaram was clear of arrest till the 3rd of July. The questioning by the CBI will be held on the 6th of June.  Mr. Chidambaram moved two courts in Delhi to gain protection from arrest.

The former Union Minister moved the Delhi High Court in the INX Media Case. The Court asked the Enforcement Directorate to avoid P. Chidambaram’s arrest till the next hearing on the 5th of June.

The summon from the CBI comes after the Congress leader’s son Karti Chidambaram was arrested. Mr. Karti was arrested after the CBI found irregularities in relation to the INX Media Case.

Mr. Karti was arrested at the Chennai Airport by the CBI in connection to the INX Media case probe. On the 15th of May last year the CBI registered an FIR against alleged irregularities.

The case relates to irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) fund released to INX Media. The CBI alleges Karti took a bribe of Rs. 10 lakhs to use his influence to gain investment for INX Media from Mauritius.

The investment received sums up to Rs. 300 crores in 2007 when Karti’s father was union finance minister. The CBI has managed to find Karti’ money trail in accounts in Spain and Greece. The authorities also seized three mobile phones from his premises last year.

Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has stood by his son and continues to state they are innocent.
