K. Vijay Kumar, a 1975 batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS,) was appointed as the Senior Security Advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of India.

The Government of India (GoI,) on the 3rd of December, issued a notice regarding the appointment of K. Vijay Kumar.  Though the orders were issued on the 3rd of December, it was reported on the 6th of December.

Mr. Kumar also served as an advisor to the Governor of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, now a union territory.  He also served as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Director of the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.  Mr. Kumar is also famous for killing Veerappan, the forest brigand, in 2004, when Kumar was the chief of the Tamil Nadu Police’s special task force.

Amit Shah is the head of the Home Ministry of India and now, Mr. Kumar would advise the Home Ministry department about all the security related issues of Jammu and Kashmir and the states affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE.)

Mr. Kumar would serve as the Senior Security Advisor for a year from the date of taking over his responsibilities.

K. Vijay Kumar is expected to take over as the Senior Security Advisor soon.  An official announcement about the date is yet to be made.
