Karnataka is conducting its bypolls for 15 Assembly seats on the 5th of December.  The polling started at 7:00 A.M., and would continue until 6:00 P.M.

The bypolls are being conducted after the seats fell vacant due to the disqualification of 15 rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Janata Dal Secular [JD(S.)]

K.R. Ramesh Kumar, the former Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, disqualified the MLAs for violating the Party whip.

Approximately 165 candidates are contesting the by-elections for 15 seats, out of which, 126 are independent candidates and 9 are women.

According to sources, a total of 37,77,970 electors are eligible to cast votes.  Out of the 37,77,970 voters, 19,25,529 are men, 18,52,027 women and 414 are third gender voters.

The Jharkhand Police deployed personnel to conduct smooth and peaceful bypolls.  A total of 4,185 polling booths were set up by the Election Commission (EC) of Karnataka for the by-elections.

The major parties in the fray are the the INC-JD(S) alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Currently, B.S. Yediyurappa is the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the BJP is the ruling Government in the State.

The results of the Karnataka bypolls for the 15 Assembly seats would be announced on the 9th of December.
