Lieutenant (Lt) General Manoj Mukund Naravane is soon going to take charge as the Chief of the Indian Army.

Lt General Manoj Mukund Naravane is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and would take over from Army Chief General Bipin Rawat after the latter’s retirement.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is scheduled to retire at the end of December, after serving as the Indian Army’s Chief for 3 years.

Before serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt General Manoj Mukund was the head of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army.

Lt General Manoj Mukund Naravane is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.  He took his training in the 7th Battalion, The Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in June 1980.

He was also a part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka during Operation PAWAN and served as a defence attaché at the Indian Embassy in Myanmar.

Speaking about the achievements of Lt General Manoj Mukund Naravane, he was awarded the Sena Medal (Distinguished) for command of his Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir, the Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.  Apart from this, Lt General Mukund was also honoured with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal for his services as the General Officer Commanding of the Army Training Command.

Lt General Mukund would take over as the Army Chief on the 1st of January 2020, a day after General Bipin Rawat retires.
