In Madhya Pradesh, approximately 3,000 junior doctors submitted their resignation. The resignation of medicos and doctors came hours after the Madhya Pradesh High Court termed their protest to be illegal. The court also directed the protesting doctors to resume their duties within 24 hours.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed and Justice Sujoy Paul criticised the doctors for going on a strike amid the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus crisis.
In Madhya Pradesh, thousands of medicos and junior doctors called for protest and strike, when the State Government failed to fulfil their demands. The strike started from the 31st of May, following which on the 3rd of June, the Madhya Pradesh High Court termed the strike illegal.
The Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (MPJDA) recently demanded a 24 % hike in their stipend, free treatment if they contract the deadly Wuhan virus, treatment and assurance of compensation for their families. Speaking to media sources, Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (MPJDA) Secretary Ankita Tripathi confirmed that nearly 3,000 junior doctors have submitted their resignations. He said, “The Government didn’t accept our demands but only gave us assurance so we did not end our strike.”
The MPJDA secretary further said, “The Government is saying that junior doctors are blackmailing them which is not true. If we had to blackmail the government, why are there fewer patients now?”
Meanwhile, Vishwas Sarang, the Medical Education Minister of Madhya Pradesh, criticised the mass resignations and said that even after their demands were met, “their attitude shows their bigotry”.
However, the MPJDA President Dr. Arvind Meena denied the claims of Vishwaa Sarang and said the State Government promised to fulfill demands, but failed.
Meanwhile, despite the restrictions of the MP High Court, the MPJDA would continue the strike until their demands are met.
