The Shiv Sena, the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are scheduled to meet on the 22nd of November to decide the power sharing formula in Maharashtra.

After the parties’ alliance was finalised, senior leaders of the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the INC would make a decision about the ministerial berths, the Chief Minister’s post and the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.  The meeting would be held at the Vidhan Sabha in Mumbai.

The parties would also discuss the possibility of a rotational Chief Minister’s post.  According to sources, the INC may demand the Chief Minister (CM) be appointed rotationally from both the Shiv Sena and the NCP, with each CM serving a term of 2.5 years.

However, if the Shiv Sena does not agree to have a rotational CM, the Deputy Chief Minister post would belong to the NCP or the INC.

Another major discussion would be regarding important portfolios of the Cabinet, which are expected to be given to the NCP and the INC.

There are a total of 42 ministerial berths, out of which 15 would be given to the Shiv Sena, 15 to the NCP and 12 to the INC.

The INC and the NCP also insisted Uddhav Thackeray take the helm and lead the coalition.  A source close to the NCP and the INC said, “Uddhav’s leadership will help stabilise the coalition.”

After holdings talks and discussing the power sharing formula, the alliance of the Shiv Sena-NCP-INC, named Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi, would soon stake the claim to form the State Government.

Stay tuned for further updates.
