Maneka Gandhi Launches The Web Portal NARI

On Tuesday, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi launched a web portal called NARI. The web portal will provide information regarding all the Government schemes offered for women.

The Minister launched the portal and said users can log on to www.nari.nic.in and access schemes provided for women by the Centre and different State Governments. NARI has information on 350 different schemes offered to women and will be updated.

NARI will list out the schemes in seven different categories – education, employment, housing, shelter, health, addressing violence, decision making and social support. Apart from NARI, Gandhi also unveiled a website called e-SAMVAD for NGOs. The website allows NGOs to contact the Ministry for feedback, grievances, suggestions and their best practices.

The Minister while interacting with the press said the Government plans to initiate a trial run for a panic button on mobile phones from the 26th of January in Uttar Pradesh.

The Government had released an order in 2016 instructing all mobile phone manufacturers to provide a panic button feature to all phones from 2017. But this order is yet to be implemented properly by the Government. This move aims at giving security to women by providing a tool to alert the local police.
