Meerut-Lucknow Train Derails, Second In A Month

On Saturday, in the early hours, the Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed near Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. This accident happened at around 8:15 A.M.

The CPRO of northern Railways, Neeraj Sharma said that eight coaches have derailed in which there were no casualties and two people were injured. The DRM of Muradabad is overlooking into the search and rescue operations and the medical teams are checking for injuries. Sharma also said that this accident has affected the railway traffic flow, as the track nearby that can be used for a diversion was filled with the crowd that has disembarked the train.

The CM of UP had announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured and Rs. 25,000 for the injured. Also, the Union Railway Minister tweeted that he was personally looking into the operations. He also said that he had passed directions to officials to rush to the spot.

This accident is the second of its kind in less than a month in Uttar Pradesh. A fortnight back, on March 30, the Mahakoshal express was in a similar incident wherein 8 coaches derailed. The Derailment had 25 injured people. The Delhi-Jabalpur had derailed moments after it left the Mohoba station, and derailed at around 2:30 A.M.
