A Muslim man was gravely beaten after allegations a dead cow was found outside his house. This incident happened in a Jharkhand village about 200 km from State Capital Ranchi. Usman Ansari was attacked by the mob and his house was set on fire.

Ansari was shifted to a hospital in Dhanbad. He was saved by the police who opened fire into the air to disperse the mob.

R.K. Mullik, senior police said, “Our men braved the crowd and immediately rescued Ansari and his family members. When the police tried to take him to the hospital, there was resistance from the crowd. There was heavy stone pelting. We had to open fire in the air.”

Through firing, two men were injured in the legs and were shifted to the hospital too. Also, 50 policemen were reportedly injured in the stone throwing. Senior officials have been deployed to maintain law and order in the village. Though no one has been arrested yet, 15 people have been taken into custody for questioning.

The cow vigilantism incidents have been on the rise in our country. The Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad speaking about this earlier said the government “is very clear that if anyone indulges in violence, then the law will have to do its job.”
In this, he was speaking about the murder of a 16 year-old Muslim boy Junaid Khan on a train by a mob that accused him and his brothers of carrying beef near Delhi.
