On Monday morning, a four day old baby was abandoned in Vasai, Mumbai in front of a bungalow. The owner of the building intimated the police about this who admitted her in the hospital. A case has been registered against the mother and the girl is being treated at the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) hospital.
Daisy Dabre, the owner of the building heard infant cries at 4:30 in the morning, and alerted her husband who called the police. This incident happened near the Rojmari Chawl on Chulna Road. When the police reached the spot the child was lying amidst mosquitoes and rats through the night,
Anil Patil, the sub-inspector said, “She miraculously survived the mosquitoes and rats. We have admitted her to the civic hospital and have registered a case under Section 317 (abandonment of newborn child) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown person. It could be a case of an unwanted pregnancy and we are checking all maternity clinics in the vicinity for recent deliveries of baby girls. We are also checking the CCTV footage to identify the culprit.”
The police also said that they will approach the Vasai court, take permission and then put the girl in child rescue home after being dismissed from the hospital. They hope the child will be adopted from the rescue home soon.
