NSCN(K) claims responsibility for Manipur ambush

Guwahati: The NSCN (Khaplang) has claimed the responsibility for the ambush in Manipur. The centre has abrogated the ceasefire with NSCN in March. As many as 18 army personnel were killed and 10 others were seriously injured the attack on Thursday at Tengnoupal-New Somtal Road in Chandel district of Manipur.

The ambush on Thursday was a joint operation by Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup and Kangleipak Communist Party, according to the militant outfit release dated June 4. The release claimed that 20 army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer were killed and 12 others were injured in the attack on a five-vehicle convoy of 6th Dogra Regiment. The attack started at around 6 am and ended till 9 to 10 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the assualt. On Twitter, he wrote, “Today’s mindless attack in Manipur is very distressing. I bow to each and every soldier who has sacrificed his life for the Nation.”
