In an encounter between security forces and militants, that ensued in early hours on Tuesday, one militant and two civilians were killed while four civilians were injured. The encounter took place in the Chadoora area in Budgam district of central Kashmir. The militant that was killed in the encounter is yet to be identified.
A police official said that the security forces today started a cordon and search operation in the area after information about the presence of militants in Durbugh area of Chadoora was received. He also added that the militants opened fire on the security forces which turned into a gun battle. These militants were holed up in the area and protesters started pelting stones on the police to stop them from firing on the militants.
Of the protesters, one was hit the by a bullet in the neck and was immediately rushed to the hospital according to the police. The injured succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. The Security forces then responded by firing pellet guns and used smoke shells in an attempt to disperse the protesters which resulted in the injury of four.
