Padma Awards 2020 And 2021: President Ram Nath Kovind Gives Awards To Awardees

On the 8th of November, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, conferred the Padma awards at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri) are the highest civilian honours given in India. While the Padma Vibhushan award is given for exceptional and distinguished services, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri awards were given for distinguished services for higher order and distinguished services, respectively.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday conferred the Padma awards to shuttler P.V. Sindhu, footballer Mr. Oinam Bembem Devi, singer Mr. Pandit Channulal Mishra, Ms. Kangana Ranaut and journalist Mr. Lalbiakthanga Pachuau.

The award was also given to Karan Johar, Adnan Sami, Ekta Kapoor awardees of the 2020 Padma awards. Due to the outbreak of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the 2020 Padma Bhushan award event was not conducted, which was held in 2021. In 2020, a total of 73 people received the Padma Awards, of which 61 people received Padma Shri awards, 4 Padma Vibhushan and 8 Padma Bhushan awards.

In addition, 12 people were posthumous awardees of the Padma awards 2020.

The 12 people who were honoured with the Padma Awards posthumously, are:

Ms. Sushma Swaraj (Public Affairs)

Mr. Arun Jaitley (Public Affairs.)

Mr. Beni Chandra Jamatia (Literature and Education.)

Mr. Abdul Jabbar Khan (Social work.)

Mr. Manmohan Mahapatra (Art.)

Mr. George Fernandes (Public Affairs.)

Ms. Shanti Jain (Art.)

Mr. Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu (Public Affairs.)

Mr. Shri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji (Spiritualism.)

Mr. Anerood Jugnath (Public Affairs.)

Mr. Neelakanta Ramakrishna Madhaya Menon (Public Affairs.)

Mr. Syed Muazzem Ali (Public Affairs.)

Meanwhile, in 2021, a total of 119 people from various fields and industries, received the award for their contribution to India. The list comprises of 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri awardees. Sixteen awards have been conferred posthumously.

The list of awardees includes 29 women and one transgender person. The awards for the 2021 Padma awards would be given to awardees on the 9th of November, Tuesday. The President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind would give the award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi.
