The Goa CM Manohar Parrikar today won the floor test with 22 MLAs. Apart from 13 members of BJP, NCP’s Churchill Alemao supported him and also three of MGP and 3 of Goa Forward Party. TwoIndependent candidates also supported Parrikar in the floor test. Congress failed in the floor test as Viswajit Rane abstained from voting and did not match their own 17 members number.
The Supreme Court had ordered that this Floor test was a mandate as the Congress had filed a petition alleging that the party was not invited to form a government despite winning the election and being the single largest party.
This test was passed after clear division which was ordered by the speaker Siddarth Kuncolienkar, who is a BJP member and also a pro-BJP candidate. Also when Congress leader Pratapsinh Rane tried to raise a point of order while Parrikar made a motion to seek the vote of confidence, the speaker did not allow Rane and went ahead with the voting process.
