After the announcement of the extension to the ongoing lockdown, the Indian railways and airlines also suspended their services till the 3rd of May 2020.

The Railway Ministry of India said, “All passenger train services on Indian Railways, including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway shall continue to remain suspended till the 2400 hrs of the 3rd of May.”

Similarly, the Civil Aviation Ministry also extended the suspension of its services till the 3rd of May.  The Aviation Ministry said, “All domestic and international scheduled airline operations shall remain suspended till 11.59 PM, the 3rd of May.”

Due to the lockdown, the Indian Railways and Aviation suffered huge losses in the past two months.   

The Western Railways were affected badly and endured a loss of Rs. 180 crore till the 1st of April, due to cancellation of the tickets.  

Meanwhile, Indian Airline companies are having a  fund of Rs. 6,000 crores, as they are providing credit vouchers instead of cash refunds.   However, IndiGo does not come under the Indian airlines companies, as they have a yearly profit of Rs.9,000 crores. 


All the airlines and passenger trains  have to relaunch their services based on the situation after the lockdown is lifted on the 3rd of May.
