Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, on the 30th of July, Saturday, would dedicate a 100 MW (megawatt) Floating Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project of MNTPC-Ramagundam to the nation.

The project would be launched virtually, from Delhi, as the power plant is planted at Ramagundam, Telangana.  The virtual launch is scheduled at noon, on the 30th of July.

It is to be noted that the 100 MW Floating Solar PV Project is the biggest floating solar PV project in the country, which was declared commercially operational from midnight on the 1st of July.  Moreover, the largest in the segment, the 100-MW Floating Solar project at Ramagundam is endowed with advanced technology as well as environment-friendly features in India.

The power plant construction was completed with a sanction of Rs. 423 crores through BHEL as EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract.  The project spreads over 500 acres of its reservoir, divided into 40 blocks, each having 2.5 MW.  Each block consists of one floating platform and an array of 11,200 solar modules.  In addition, the floating platform consists of one Inverter, Transformer, and a High Tension (HT) breaker.

The project which is being dedicated to the nation is unique in the sense that all the electrical equipment including inverter, transformer, HT panel and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) are also on floating Ferro cement platforms. The anchoring of this system is bottom anchoring through dead-weight concrete blocks.

From an environmental point of view, the most obvious advantage is the minimum land requirement mostly for associated evacuation arrangements.  In addition, with the presence of floating solar panels, the evaporation rate from water bodies is reduced, thus helping in water conservation.

Approximately 32.5 lakh cubic meters per year of water evaporation can be avoided with the solar project.  The water body underneath the solar modules helps in maintaining their ambient temperature, thereby improving their efficiency and generation.

Similarly, while coal consumption can be avoided at 1,65,000 tons per year, Co2 of 2,10,000 tons per year can be avoided.

Moreover, besides Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also launch the 92 Megawatt (MW) Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project in Kerala.   He would also lay the foundation stone of the 735 MW Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan, the Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh, and Kawas Green Hydrogen Blending with Natural Gas project in Gujarat.

The projects have been launched under the revamped power distribution and green energy scheme, to enhance the power sector of India, for the public.

Furthermore, the entire revamped project in India would be worth Rs. 5,200 crores.
