President Ram Nath Kovind appointed new governors for as many as eight states including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Tripura, Haryana and Jharkhand.
Below is the list of governors who would take over their new position in the 8 states.
Karnataka – Thaawarchand Gehlot.
Mizoram – Hari Babu Kambhampati.
Madhya Pradesh – Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel.
Himachal Pradesh – Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
Goa – P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
Tripura – Satyadev Narayan Arya.
Haryana – Bandaru Dattatraya.
Jharkhand – Ramesh Bais.
Many of the appointments are reshuffled, while some of them are new appointments. Speaking of reshuffling, the current Union Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the Governor of Karnataka. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, who was the Governor of Mizoram has been appointed as the Governor of Goa, Satyadev Narayan Arya, Governor of Haryana is transferred and appointed as Governor of Tripura; Ramesh Bais, Governor of Tripura is transferred and appointed as Governor of Jharkhand; Bandaru Dattatraya, Governor of Himachal Pradesh is transferred and appointed as Governor of Haryana.
In regard to the appointments, the Rashtrapati Bhavan released a communication which said, the appointments “will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.”
The appointment came at a time when the Union Cabinet expansion is likely to be held soon. With the expansion of the Union Cabinet, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Narendra Modi might induct new faces for crucial positions in the Central Government.
