On the 25th of August, the Interpol issued a red notice against the wife of Nirav Modi.
The red notice A red corner notice acts as international arrest warrant.
Nirav Modi is the prime accused in the 2018 Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case worth Rs. 13,500 crores. The red notice was issued in connection with the money laundering case registered against Ami Modi, wife of Nirav Modi in India.
Ami Modi left India with Nirav Modi and other family members in the first week of January, 2018.
The red notice was issued against Ami, who was the director in a few companies which were allegedly used by Nirav Modi for laundering money. The Interpol issued the arrest warrant after the ED requested to issue a warrant against Ami Modi.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) during investigation also named Ami as an accused in the PNB money laundering case in 2019.
The ED has charged Ami Modi for conspiring and money laundering with her husband and jeweller Nirav Modi apart from his uncle Mehul Choksi and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA.)
Nirav Modi is currently lodged in a United Kingdom (U.K,) jail after being arrested in London in March, 2019 and is currently fighting extradition to India.
