On the 8th of July, Friday, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a fresh plea of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.
Notably, on Friday, Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, the President of the Shiv Sena and the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, challenged the appointment of Mr. Eknath Shinde as the State Chief Minister. In the filed petition, the Shiv Sena also challenged the recently held Maharashtra Assembly Speaker elections and the green signal of Mr. Bhagwant Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde to form a government., The Uddhav Thackeray-led party also challenged the 30th of June floor test, in which Mr. Eknath Shinde, with the support of 39 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs proved the majority and staked claims to form the State Government.
Reviewing the plea, a vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and Justice J.K. Maheshwari said, it would be listed before an appropriate bench on the 11th of July. Senior advocate Devadatt Kamat, appearing for Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai, said they are seeking a listing of the fresh plea along with other pending petitions which are coming up for hearing on the same day.
