Sharad Pawar, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP,) said the move to ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was Ajit Pawar’s personal decision.
After the BJP and the NCP allied to form the Maharashtra Government, Sharad Pawar took to Twitter and said, “Ajit Pawar’s decision to support the BJP to form the Maharashtra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP.) We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his.”
However, it is believed the NCP supports the Devendra Fadnavis led Government.
In an overnight move, the BJP and the NCP formed the State Government. While Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP took the oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar became the Deputy Chief Minister.
Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra, administered the oath of office to Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis at Raj Bhavan, Maharashtra.
Abhishek Singhvi of the INC was shocked by the recent development and said he thought the news was fake.
Jaiveer Shergill, another member of the INC, also reacted in a similar manner and said there are no true friends in politics.
Shergill took to Twitter and said, “Koi Kissi Ka Sakha Nahi” -Biggest takeaway from this morning’s unexpected political development in #Maharashtra #DevendraFadnavis sworn in as CM.”
Twitter is flooded with messages and posts with #MaharashtraPolitics and #MaharashtraGovernmentFormation.

With this, BJP has not only managed to pull of a political coup, but also give itself speaking points for the future – targeting opposition for being willing to do ‘anything’ to keep it out. Modi will have more examples to cite for his ‘mahamilavat’ phrase. #MaharashtraPolitics

It may be called #PawarVersusPawar but given that Ajit Pawar was getting the post of Deputy CM even with #ShivSena leading government & gets the same post now, hard to believe that NCP Chief, given his political cunning, was not on board? #MaharashtraPolitics
