The new Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani is taking charge after three train accidents in the span of just 5 days claiming the lives of 20 people. Mr. Lohani stressed that his main focus will be solely on safety.
Lohani was quoted saying, “Our main focus will be on safety.” He has since assumed charge at the Rail Bhawan.
Ashwani Lohani also said that his secondary aim would be to maintain better cleanliness at the railway stations.
Lohani further added, “I will also try to end corruption and VIP culture in the railways, as it is the lifeline of the country.”
On Wednesday, Lohani was appointed as the Chairman of the Railway Board. A.K. Mittal the former Chairman stepped down after the accidents that left 200 people injured and 20 people dead.
The appointment of Lohani was announced immediately after Suresh Prabhu met with PM Modi on Wednesday and offered to resign.
