The Tripura Municipal Elections for 222 seats began at 7:00 AM, on the 25th of November.
Approximately 785 candidates including the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Trinamool Congress (TMC,) the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Communist Party of Marxist (CPM) and independent candidates are contesting the elections. A total of 664 polling stations have been installed. A tight security has been deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful polls. The polling is being held in 20 municipal urban corporations and 222 seats, including Agartala Municipal Elections.
Although parties like INC, CPM are in the fray, the tough fight is between the BJP and the TMC. After the recent victory of the BJP in 112 seats of the total 334 seats, the chances of the BJP’s win is 50 %. In November, elections for 334 municipal seats were conducted. The elections for the remaining 222 seats are being held today, the 25th of November.
Voting will continue till 4:00 PM and six lakh voters are reportedly eligible to cast their votes. These are the first municipal elections taking place in Tripura since the BJP formed its first government here in 2018. The state will elect its next government in early 2023, after conducting the Tripura Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the results of the Tripura Municipal Elections would be announced on the 28th of November.
