The social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are flooded with posts, memes and tweets expressing happiness over the cancellation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) 12th examinations. 

On the 1st of June, the Union Education Ministry announced to cancel the CBSE 12th exams for the academic year 2020-2021. The decision was taken after a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman Manoj Ahuja were present during the meeting

After the meeting, PM Modi took to Twitter and said, “Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth.” He said, students safety is the utmost priority of the Central Government.

Soon, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also released a statement which read, “Health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect. Anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end…Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation. All stakeholders need to show sensitivity for students.”

Soon after the announcement of the 12th boards cancellation, Twitter was flooded with hilarious memes.

In addition, it is to be noted, the CBSE would release results of class 12th soon. Since the exams have been cancelled, the CBSE has stated that students of Class 12 would be evaluated on the basis of a well defined objective criteria. While details for the same have note been shared as yet, it is likely that the board may include internal marks as well as marks of Classes 9 to 11 for standardisation.

Although, the CBSE cancelled the 12th boards exams, the state boards of Jharkhand, Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are yet to decide on the conduct of 12th examination for the academic year 2020-2021.
