After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed a government in Maharashtra which lasted for 80 hours, the alliance of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP,) the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Shiv Sena is all set to form the Government.

Uddhav Thackeray, the President of the Shiv Sena, would become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and was nominated for the same on the 27th of November.

On the 27th of November, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi, the NCP-Shiv Sena-INC alliance, met Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra and staked claim to form the Government.

With the support of 166 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) the Shiv Sena would be in power after nearly 20 years.

While Uddhav Thackeray would become the Chief Minister, key ministerial berths and the Deputy Chief Minister’s post would be given to INC and NCP candidates respectively.  Speaking about other information regarding the power sharing formula, Praful Patel, a member of the NCP, addressed the media after a joint meeting of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi and said, “Maharashtra Assembly speaker’s post to go to Congress; deputy CM to be from NCP.” 

He further added the three parties discussed two members each from the three parties would take the oath of office with Mr. Thackeray.  According to NCP leader Patel, there would be only one Deputy CM for the next 5 years. However, the NCP did not finalise the candidate for the post yet.

For the swearing in ceremony, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M.K. Stalin and other leaders were invited.

According to sources, Arvind Kejriwal, Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC, Rahul Gandhi and Manmohan Singh are expected to skip Thackeray’s oath taking ceremony. 

Uddhav Thackeray also called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and invited him for the oath taking ceremony.

The swearing in ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 28th of November at 6:40 P.M., at Shivaji Park, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
