West Bengal Panchayat Polls: Armed Men Steal Ballot Boxes

Armed men charged in the Murshidabad booth in West Bengal and stole the ballot boxes for the Panchayat Elections. This election saw a huge number of clashes between the BJP workers and the Trinamool Congress workers. Four people were killed during the violence by the miscreants.

The State Minister Rabindra Nath Ghosh said, BJP agent was trying to run away with the ballot box, while officers caught hold of him but people said to let him go. I just drove people away using my hand, that’s all.”  However, this statement is uncertain as Ghosh was recently caught on camera slapping a BJP polling agent.

A report alleged another voting booth was vandalized in North Dinajpur by TMC workers. Another ballot box was recovered from a pond in Sonadangi. The BJP and TMC workers clashed outside a polling station in Raniganj area leading to vandalism of vehicles.

Four people were killed in clashes during the West Bengal Panchayat Polls. A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was beaten to death at Shantipur in Nadia District. Another TMC worker was killed in South 24 Parganas by an angry mob.

The violence against the TMC workers started after multiple reports of the party workers threatened voters. A number of reports showed TMC workers sparking violence outside polling stations.

These Panchayat elections are being held after weeks of suspense over the dates and prolonged court cases. The BJP has put out a huge effort to defeat the Trinamool Congress party.
