Today, V.K. Sasikala will be allowed to leave the prison in Bengaluru after spending 8 months for corruption. The court has granted her a five day parole to travel to Chennai to visit her sick husband in the hospital.

The plea for parole was made earlier this week but was rejected due to incomplete paperwork. This time the parole has been granted but with a few conditions. The conditions are that Sasikala must live at her sister in law Ilavarasi’s home, who is also locked up in the same prison. The corrupt politician has also been banned from taking part in any political activity or making any statements to the media.

Sasikala’s nephew T.T.V. Dhinakaran arrived at the Bengaluru Central Prison to greet his aunt and take her to Chennai. Both Sasikala and Dhinakaran were sidelined by AIADMK after the power struggle that took place after the death of J. Jayalalithaa.

Sasikala was Jayalalithaa’s closest aide and became chief of AIADMK after her death. Sasikala planned to take over as Chief Minister in February but the Supreme Court sentenced her to four years in jail for corruption in a case from the 1990s.

Sasikala’s husband, M. Natarajan is 74 years old and was admitted to the hospital after a multiple organ failure. He will undergo a liver and kidney transplant on Wednesday in Chennai.
