Deepika Kumari, the Indian star in archery, was named as the world’s No. 1 archer in women’s ranking list. 

On the 28th of June, Monday, Deepika Kumar claimed the number one position in Global Ranking for Recurve Women. The position was given for her excellent performance and her hat trick of winning gold medals at the World Cup. stage 3.

On the 27th of June, Sunday, Ms. Deepika won gold medals in 3 recurve events at the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris, France.

The 27 year old Indian Athlete from Ranchi, Jharkhand, achieved the top spot and made India proud. Deepika first combined with Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari to notch up the women’s recurve team gold with a comfortable win over Mexico. In the second game, she paired up with husband Atanu Das and the couple came back from a 0-2 deficit to down the Netherlands’ Sjef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloesser 5-3 for the gold medal. In the final game, the Ranchi archer played against Russian archer Elena Osipova and won the third gold medal at the event.

While yesterday she won 3 gold medals, overall, she has 9 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 7 bronze medals at the World Cup.

After securing the 1st position at the global ranking, Deepika Kumari said, “This is the first time I’ve won all three medals in a World Cup. I’m really happy but at the same time, I’ve to continue improving as we have some very, very important competitions lined up (sic.)”

With this, Deepika Kumari becomes the only second Indian woman to claim the first position in Women’s Recurve Ranking globally. The first such archer was Dola Banerjee in June 2012 after winning gold medals at Recurve World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

In addition, after winning at Recurve World Cup Stage 3 in Paris, Deepika Kumari would be the only Indian archer to represent India in the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled in the next month.

The Tokyo Olympics is scheduled to be held from the 23rd of July 2021 and would end on the 8th of August 2021.
