New Delhi: Indian Boxer Vijender Singh defeated Kerry Hope to become WBO Asia-Pacific Super Middleweight title at Thygari Raj Sports Complex on Saturday. Many politicians and celebrities witnessed the event and cheered the boxer towards his victory.

Vijender had a tough match with his opponent Kerry Hope. Initially Singh missed a couple of punches and almost slipped but soon he boosted himself. The Beijing Olympics bronze medalist prevailed in a 10-round battle against Hope to clinch the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title. The crowd went berserk. Vijender was flaunting his belt to the passionate crowd despite being worn out.

The 30-year-old boxer dedicated his win to boxing great Muhammad Ali, who breathed his last earlier this year. “I want to dedicate my WBO win to Muhammad Ali,” an elated Vijender said.
Soon after the match Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Vijender Singh with his twitter post which read , ‘Congratulations @boxervijender for a hard fought and well deserved win. It was yet another display of immense skill, strength & stamina.’
Indian Cricket team captain also twitted saying, ‘Saw a full mch of boxing after yrs.thks @boxervijender for mkg INDIA proud,it’s just the start ur hrd wrk,dedication and sacrifice paid off.
