One of the greatest name in Indian Hockey, Mohammed Shahid passed away on Wednesday at Gurgaon Medanta Mendicity after battling severe liver condition and kidney failure. Shahid was a part of Indian Hockey team which won the 1980 Moscow Olympics. India hockey team met the legend before going for Rio.

Last month, on june 29, the player was admitted to the SSL Hospital at Banaras Hindu University with severe stomatch pain and was later flown to Delhi after his health started deteriorating. He is survived by his wife Parveen Shahid and twin children Mohammad Saif and Heena Shahid.
After listenning this India’s goalkeeper and captain for the Rio Olympics PR Sreejesh said, “I am speechless. When we visited him, the situation was very critical. It’s a great loss for Indian hokey. Shahid was a living legend who brought hockey to a different level.”
