Google surprised many by announcing their new update on Wednesday with advanced features and extensions of OEM skinned smartphones that we have seen in the past. Aptly named Android O, more details of this update will be announced in the next few weeks.
The update is already available, but as it is a new version, the early build is bound to be filled with bugs and issues. So unless you have a spare device, we advise you to not download this.
Five Features to Look Forward to in Android O are:
Picture in Picture Mode:
Google has finally decided to bring in PIP to its Android version, something that many apps already feature. This can be used for media applications, saved videos which will allow third party developers to officially leverage the feature. It is yet to be seen as to how this feature will affect the battery life of the mobile.
New Adaptive Options:
In this, developers will be able to set adaptive icons that can be changed depending on the device. This feature has been present in Samsung Smartphones but will now be introduced even in the stock Android phones. The icons will have new and different animation when displayed on screen and also other areas of the UI
Notifications:
This new feature makes your notification window look less cluttered and clean it of unnecessary junk. It categorizes the window by your preferences and gets individual notifications instead of bulk. This can be adjusted within the application without affecting the entire channel.
Autofill APIs:
The auto fill option has been present in browsers for a long time. Now with Android O, you can save your passwords, card details etc., on the UI. The whole new system will make the user’s life easier.
Reduced background tasks:
To increase the battery, Google has taken up the idea of battery saver in Android O. It will automatically close the background applications that are eating up the battery and in turn, increase the battery life. Some of the restricted features include background services, location, and implicit broadcast.
