Ms. A. Santhi Kumari, the senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer is the new Chief Secretary of the Telugu State of Telangana.
Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, issued an order and approved Ms. A. Santhi Kumar’s appointment. Following orders from the Telangana Chief Minister, Ms. A. Santhi Kumari, IAS Officer of the 1989 batch took charge as the first woman Chief Secretary of the State at the Secretariat in BRK Bhavan.
She took the office charge and replaced Mr. Somesh Kumar, the former Chief Secretary of Telangana, on the 11th of January, Wednesday. Shortly after taking charge, the new Chief Secretary called on the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan and thanked him for the opportunity. The Chief Minister congratulated her on the occasion. She was holding the post of Special Chief Secretary for Environment and Forests, prior to her appointment as Chief Secretary.
It is to be noted, Mr. Somesh Kumar, the outgoing CS of Telangana, has been ordered to report to Andhra Pradesh. Although Mr. Somesh Kumar opposed the orders issued by the Government of India, the orders of the Telangana High Court left no choice for Mr. Somesh Kumar, but to either opt for voluntary retirement or report to the Andhra Pradesh Administration. Recently, the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India issued an order and relieved the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer Mr. Somesh Kumar, from the duties of the CS of Telangana, directed him to report to Andhra Pradesh Cadre from Thursday, the 12th of January. Opposing the orders, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Hyderabad, issued a stay on the allotment of senior IAS officers and CS transfer, but the Telangana High Court (HC) quashed the orders. On the 10th of January, Tuesday, the HC quashed the order of the CAT and left the State Government with no option but to appoint Mr. Somesh Kumar’s successor.
Meanwhile, Ms. A. Santhi Kumari would hold the position of the Chief Secretary of Telangana till April 2025.
