The Hyderabad High Court issued a letter that the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA,) should accommodate minimum Rs. 3 lakhs compensation to Sonia Shaikh, the gang rape victim. This has been forwarded to district collector for decision.

This letter came after the last visit of Sonia to DSLA at L.B. Nagar on June 9, where the transgender women should approach for compensation.

Sonia was gang raped and attacked with acid on June 15 in the city. She suffered 54 percent burns on her face and body. In 2015, the Supreme Court ordered the state governments to include the victims of acid attack under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act.

This SC directive advises the state to pay Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs as compensation for the victim.
