The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE,) on the 30th of October, fined 50 corporate and private colleges in Telangana.

The BIE issued a notice to the principals of the colleges and fined them for conducting classes during Dussehra holidays, which is a violation of the Government’s rules.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government announced all the educational institutions were to, without fail, shut down during Dussehra.  The Government extended the holidays from the 14th of October till the 19th of October in the wake of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) strike.

According to sources, the BIE officials conducted an inspection and found out as many as 30 institutions, especially those in Medchal, Rangareddy and Hyderabad, conducted classes during the Dussehra vacation.

The BIE imposed a fine between Rs. 1 lakh and 7 lakhs on the institutions, depending on the number of days the classes were held.

Syed Umar Jalil, the Secretary of the BIE, issued a notice for the same and said, “We have levied Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh penalty on corporate and private junior colleges, mostly Sri Chaitanya and Narayana. Despite warning and inspections from the board, the colleges were found to be running classes. We have issued notices to principals concerned.”

If the colleges and institutions fail to pay the fine by the 2nd of November, their affiliation would be cancelled by the BIE.

Stay tuned for further updates.
