The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders decided to boycott the address of Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, on the 31st of January.

Mr. K. Keshava Rao, the BRS leader said his party would boycott the President’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament to protest against the failure of the Central Government.  He said, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government failed on all fronts of governance.  In order to protest the same, the BRS Members of Parliament (MPs) said they are “boycotting in protest against the failure of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre on all fronts of governance.”

It is to be noted, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, addresses members of both Houses in the Parliament’s Central Hall on the first day of the Parliament session.

The Union Budget 2023-2024 started on the 31st of January with the President’s address, followed by the speech of Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India.  In addition, on the 1st of February, Wednesday, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, is scheduled to present the 2023-2024 Union Budget.

The Union Budget Session is scheduled to be held in two phases, the first phase is set to be held between the 31st of January to the 13th of February.  The second phase is scheduled to begin from the 13th of March to the 6th of April.

Notably, ahead of the 2024 General elections, this is the last Budget session, which is being held under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government.
