The Telangana High Court’s decision to disqualify Danam Nagender has given fresh momentum to the BRS, with party leaders now turning their focus to other MLAs who moved from BRS to Congress.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao welcomed the verdict and said the other defected MLAs could face a similar outcome. He described the ruling as an important development in the ongoing defection issue.
BRS leader T Harish Rao also welcomed the judgment and questioned the handling of earlier disqualification petitions. He urged the Assembly Speaker to act on the cases against the other defected MLAs according to the Constitution and law. He also referred to the Congress’ earlier promise on changes to the anti-defection law.
BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who was among those who challenged the Speaker’s decision on Nagender, called the verdict a major victory for the party. He said the BRS had pursued the issue for nearly two-and-a-half years.
The BRS has also called for fresh mandates for defected MLAs. However, the cases involving other legislators will have to be decided separately based on their own proceedings.
