Etela Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana, urged the recovered patients from the Novel Coronavirus to donate plasma and save other lives.

In the wake  of the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus cases in Telangana, the State Health Minister urged fully recovered people from COVID-19 patients to come forward and donate their plasma.

Mr. Rajendet tweeted, “Requesting #COVID19 recovered patients to please come and donate #Plasma and save covid patients.”

Plasma therapy is one of the cures for the treatment of patients infected with the Novel Coronavirus.  This therapy uses the antibodies produced in the body of a patient, by using the blood plasma of a cured COVID-19 patient.  The therapy results in boosting immunity of the patients and helping the body to fight off the virus.

In April, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) gave permission to Telangana’s designated COVID-19 treatment centre, Gandhi Hospital to conduct plasma therapy.

The State Government conducted plasma therapy and saved many lives in the past.

The request by the State Health Minister came after a massive everyday hike in the cases of the Novel Coronavirus infection.

The State reports a minimum of 1,000 single day spike since June beginning, after the State Government announced a  few relaxations from the lockdown.

Majority of cases are from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC,) Malkajgiri and Rangareddy, which are also a few hotspots for the spread of the virus in Telangana.

In regard to the current situation of COVID-19, Mr. Etela urged people to save others’ life and voluntarily donate plasma.

Recently, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi inaugurated  a plasma bank in Hyderabad for COVID-19 patients.

Currently, as approved by ICMR, only the State run Gandhi hospital is conducting plasma therapy.

Meanwhile, till the 10th of July, Telangana recorded 30,946 cases of the Novel Coronavirus.  Of the total, 12,423 are active cases, 18,192 are recovered/discharged cases and 331 are deceased.

In addition, the mortality rate of Coronavirus in Telangana is 1.07 %, average rate of infection growth is at 7% and recovery rate is high at 58.79 %.

Till date, Telangana Health Department conducted as many as 1,40,755 sample tests for the deadly infection.
